Marine and Coastal

The Marine Coastal Initiative is the only cross-state effort to coordinate coastal and marine resources and management approaches in the Southeast. This project will work to establish mapping priorities, and address common regional issues related to working waterfronts, healthy fisheries and habitat, clean coastal and ocean waters, and disaster-resilient communities.

Climate

The Climate Change focus group seeks to look at current research on climate change and provide updates to the principals group on adaptations and mitigation opportunities to climate change for individual projects. This focus group further operates as a clearinghouse for the most recent research applicable to the southeast and SERPPAS’ goals and objectives.

Implementation Models

SERPPAS functions as a multi-agency partnership with members from various federal and state government agencies. This multi-agency partnership has created several styles of implementation models which have region wide application. This focus area looks to promote SERPPAS’ objectives and better facilitate models including: The Good Map project, Commanders Councils, and place based multi-agency projects.

Sustainable Forestry

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative seeks to ensure the perpetuation of forest cover on large forested blocks across the Southeast. This project seeks to create solutions through four key program areas: maintaining forest lands in the southeast, managing for prescribed fire and clean air, expanding the range of longleaf pine into its historic habitat, and managing forests for biomass production.

Other Issue Teams

The broad mission of SERPPAS covers natural resource projects that fall in line with the overarching goals of the partners but do not fit neatly into a focus area. Environmental justice and endangered species habitat management require a project specific level of focus and these programs are managed by individual working groups.
