Assessing the Importance of Wetlands on DoD Installations for the Persistence of Wetland-dependent Birds in North America

Time and Date: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, February 07 2019

As technology advances, researchers are gaining access to tools that allow us to take a glimpse into the future. This webinar will explore the DoD Legacy Program funded-work that Dr. Bryan Stevens and his colleagues performed to develop range-wide, breeding season distribution models for secretive marsh birds. The webinar also will explain how to map those models on DoD installations within the continental U.S. With this information, natural resources managers can use multi-scale predictive occupancy models to predict breeding habitat quality for various species of marsh birds across DoD installations, as well as identify important installations for each species based on the amount of high-quality breeding habitat.
