SERPPAS Principals and Steering Committee members,
As a reminder, the next SERPPAS Principals Meeting is scheduled on May 10-11, 2016, at Fort Benning, Georgia. A draft agenda and logistics information are available for your review. Additionally, please review the following important highlights below:
As proposed at the last SERPPAS Principals Meeting, the partnership wanted to return to a military installation to observe encroachment challenges, at-risk species habitat, training impacts, and management activities first hand. Time has been set aside on the morning of the first day for Fort Benning leaders and staff to share their perspective on the issues faced from incompatible development and partnering solutions developed by the installation to combat these challenges. In the afternoon of the first day, all attendees will join Fort Benning staff and partners on a tour to visit example training, habitat, and protected sites discussed. Weather permitting, attendees will observe and participate in an actual prescribed burn. With the Fort Benning experience as a solid backdrop, there will be time on the mornings of both days for facilitated discussion on specific actions that SERPPAS could pursue to advance the objectives in the updated Strategic Plan.
We have a block of rooms reserved at the installation’s on-base lodging facility, Abrams Hall. If you need a room reservation, make sure that you call (706) 689-0067 and request a room under “SERPPAS Principals Meeting” by Friday, April 29. The hotel is providing rooms at the standard rate of $89/night.
DRESS CODE (IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ)
Given the range tour and prescribed burn activity on the first day of the meeting, the dress code is different compared to traditional Principals meetings: Dress code for Day 1 of the meeting: Field attire (lightweight and casual) and appropriate footwear (boots/sneakers). There will not be time to change clothes before the range tour. Dress code for Day 2 of the meeting: Business Professional (or equivalent military attire).
We will collect $30 from each attendee to cover the cost of all day coffee and beverages, light breakfast (e.g., yogurt, fruit, bagels) on both days, and a boxed lunch on Tuesday, May 10. Note the boxed lunch will be consumed at a pavilion at one of the sites on the range tour.
There are three exciting optional events planned as part of the meeting: (1) An optional no-host dinner at 11th and Bay restaurant on Monday night at 6:00pm. (2) An optional tour and dinner at the National Infantry Museum following the meeting on Tuesday night at 6:00-9:00pm for an additional fee of $20. (3) An optional no-host lunch at the base’s Dining Facility and tour of the installation’s premiere Airborne School and Historical Sites on Wednesday afternoon immediately following the meeting on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00-3:30pm. Additional details can be found in the logistics information.
